Kanye West Called 400 Years of Slavery a âChoiceâ In TMZ Interview... This reporter wasn't having it. The drama starts at 1:49 in the video attached...
After courting controversy with his political views in the past week, he achieved a new level of public outrage when he showed up at the TMZ offices for an interview on Tuesday afternoon. While talking to Harvey and the gang, Yeezy said, âWhen you hear about slavery for 400 yearsâĻ for 400 years? That sounds like a choice?â
While the interviewers appeared momentarily stunned, TMZ Sports reporter Van Lathancalled Kanye out. He told âYe, âWhile you are making music and being an artist and living the life that youâve earned by being a genius, the rest of us in society have to deal with these threats to our livesâĻ Iâm disappointed, Iâm appalled, and brother, I am unbelievably hurt by the fact that you have morphed into something to me, thatâs not real.â
Later on Twitter, Kanye attempted to clarify. He wrote, âOf course I know that slaves did not get shackled and put on a boat by free will. My point is for us to have stayed in that position even though the numbers were on our side means that were mentally enslaved.â
He summed up the swell of public criticism against him as, âOnce again I am being attacked for presenting new ideas.â
