Minnehaha Assisted Living's Christmas Wish

Dear Dave, Steve, and Falen
I would like to nominate Minnehaha Senior Living via Brandy Synkiew for a Christmas wish. I first heard about the assisted living facility and its needs when Brandy tried reaching out for help in a group that we are both a part of on Facebook. Her original post read: I am the Director of Nursing at an Assisted Living in Minneapolis. I am reaching out for donations for some of the less fortunate that need some basic supplies such as paper towels, paper plates, toilet paper, soap (hand, shampoo, conditioner), incontinent products, wipes, b/p cuffs, razors, hats, gloves, house cleaning supplies, garbage bags, odor eliminators, deodorant, perfumes and body sprays, lipstick and chapstick, etc. Our tenants live in their own apartments and we don’t supply their basic needs.
Upon seeing this I wanted to try and help and so I messaged her letting her know that I would try to gather some donations . After some time of being unsuccessful myself, I messaged her and let her know that I hadn’t forgot about her but was having trouble getting donations myself as it seemed that many people are struggling themselves right now. We messaged each other more and I found out that there are around 80 residents at the Assisted Living and that many live on around $90 a month. Along with this many don’t have family that can help out with the things they need. On top of not being able to afford the necessities, the Assisted living has a very small activities budget for entertainment and things for the residents to do to take their mind off of things and make the days not seem so long. And their activity buses are often breaking down due to the age of the vehicles and budget. On top of losing sleep over the needs of her residents Brandy also just lost her Grandmother this week, leaving her feeling hopeless. I couldn’t stop thinking about the residents and their situation and how the holidays were coming up and they would be waking up Christmas morning without their needs met. As a long time listener of KDWB and Christmas Wish, it came to me that I should write in hoping that these residents and members of one of the most vulnerable populations could get some help and some hope for Christmas. Please consider giving to Minnehaha Senior Living and let them know that we care about them and that they are not forgotten.
Thank You,
Jessica Ehrnst
