Peak Dinner Time for Americans Is 6:19 P.M.

Do you think you eat dinner earlier or later than most people, or are you about average? If your normal dinner time is after 6:19 P.M., you're later than average.

Someone combined stats from surveys taken between 2018 and last year, and 6:19 is the average dinner time overall. But it also depends on the state you're in.

Pennsylvania has the earliest dinner time at 5:37 P.M., followed by Maine at 5:40. Then six states start at 6:00 P.M. on the dot.  (Vermont, Wyoming, North Dakota, New Hampshire, Alaska, and New Mexico.)

Texas and Mississippi have the latest start time at 7:02 P.M. Then it's Tennessee and Arkansas at 7:00.  (Here's the chart.)

Most people eat dinner between 5:00 and 8:00 P.M. There's a small pop around 4:00 P.M. too though. And a solid portion of us are eating dinner much later, including some who said more like 11:00 P.M. on average.

In general though, if you want to define what "dinner time" is in the U.S., it stretches from 5:07 to 8:19 P.M.
